The fastening mechanism has at least one bolt(13) and locking element(15) interacting with it. The bolt is movably installed on a bracket(7) fixed to the seat structure, and the locking element is located on a part fixed to the structure of the vehicle. The bolt may be pivotable or slidable on the seat structure part. The bolt is movable by means of a linkage(11,21). A locking device keeps the bolt in engagement with the locking element. The locking element is formed on a rail(5). An independent claim is included for the seat of a motor vehicle, especially a van, which has the aforesaid fastening mechanism.
