Zusammenfassung:	Process oils with an aromatic content of more than 50 weight %, in particular of more than 55 weight %, according to ASTM D 2007 and a content of polycyclic aromatic compounds of less than 3 weight % according to IP 346 are prepared from a primary extract (4) obtained by treatment of a lubricating oil distillate originating a mineral oil with a polar solvent. The primary extract (4) is extracted in a counter current extraction column (1) with a polar solvent (2) using a volume ratio of primary extract fed to the column to polar solvent in the range 1:1 to 1:1.8 as well as a temperature in the head region of the counter current extraction column in the range 50-90 DEG C and in the bottom region of 20-60 DEG C and with the head temperature higher than the bottom temperature.
