Zusammenfassung:Continuous recovery of microbial fermentation products (I) with high space-time yields comprises carrying out fermentation in continuous contact with a special phase system which is selective for microbial end products but is not miscible with the fermentation soln. Starting materials are added continuously, and the inhibitory or poisoning target products (an opt. by products) are continuously removed from the fermentation soln. by means of the phase system. Also new is prepn. of shaped adsorbents for recovery of (I) comprising (1) dissolving a cellulose deriv. (II) in a low b.pt. or water-soluble solvent; (2) soaking high-silicate type adsorbent with this soln. (wt. ratio 50-95 pts. adsorbent to 5-50 pts. (II)), (3) pressing the resulting mixt. conventionally through a perforated plate; and (4) removing solvent from the resulting droplets by temp. increase or by transfer to the aq. phase. Pref. the phase system is a solid, porous adsorbent and this can be regenerated by desorption, followed (after sterilisation) by reuse. Alternatively, a solid ion exchanger or a liq. system (sepd. from the fermentation soln. by a solid membrane) is used. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method is used to recover vitamins, alcohol, amino acids pharmaceuticals, etc. and to produce alcohol free beer. It provides (I) more quickly and with higher conversion, in highly conc. form.
