A device for this method of absorbing impact energy has an elastomer shock absorber (4) having two piston rods (6, 7) with different diameters and arranged in a common working cylinder (5), wherein the piston rod (7) with the smaller diameter lies with its end on the bottom (3) of a body, and the face (8) of the elastomer shock absorber (4) bumps against an adjoining plate (9).
