Decarboxylation of halogenated aromatic carboxylic acids of formula (I) to compounds of formula (II) comprises heating (I) with water to 80-180 degrees C or heating (I) with water and another acid to greater than 80 degrees C. X = F, Cl and/or Br; n = 1 or 2.
