DEHYDRATION OF PRIMARY ALCOHOLS

Primary alcohols are dehydrated into alpha-unsaturated hydrocarbons by contacting them with a catalyst consisting of niobic acid and/or tantalic acid. The catalyst can be activated by heating before the reaction.
