A cam 37 pivots a lever 38 so that a bridge 39 turns levers 5 anti- clockwise, a selected solenoid 2 then attracts its lever 3 so that return of the bridge 39 enables the lever 5 to turn clockwise and push downwards a neb 16 mounted in a fork ended slide 21, the cam 35 then pivots a lever 41 to move a second slide 33 which engages the neb 16 and moves the first slide 21 to the right so that its forked end 30, 31 contacts a segment (48), corresponding to the selected slide 21, and pivots it so that its movement is transmitted to a segment 58 to pivot it to the required picking position. A spring 20 returns the slide 21 to the left to enable further selection to be made.
