Side door latch

A side door latch (10) includes an integrated motor (14) and a power release gear (12) for performing a power release function of the latch, where rotation of the motor (14) in a power release direction drives the power release gear (12) to sequentially strike a power release lever (16) to move a pawl release lever (16) so that the former may interact with a pawl lifter (38), and the power release gear (12) drives the power release lever (16) to move the pawl lifter (38). A pawl lifter (38) is connected to the latch pawl (32), allowing the pawl (30) to rotate to its open position. The side door latch (10) further comprises a take-up override lever (36) which allows the take-up function to be cancelled at any time of the take-up stroke by interacting with the take-up override clutch (34), in turn with the take-up device, to connect the override clutch link (20) to the pawl release lever and the take-up override clutch levers (22, 34).
