Cooking aid

A cooking aid for use with a cooking appliance includes: a housing positioned adjacent to the cooking appliance and mounted to or integrated into a proximity structure within a line of sight of a cooking surface; the at least one image sensor is used for generating image data of the cooking utensil; a controller comprising a processor configured to process the image data to determine a condition of a food product in a cooking container on the cooking appliance, the condition relating to a liquid volume or liquid level measurement; and a communication interface for conveying the determined condition of the food product in a human understandable manner.
