The monitoring device comprises an expanded insulation monitoring system (20) configured to be used for determining the overall system leakage capacitance (Ceges) of apower supply system (2); an extended insulation fault location system (30) configured for determining ohmic and capacitive local test current portions (Ire, Ice) of the local test current (Ie) captured in the respective local system (6); and an impedance evaluation system (40) for determining a local insulation resistance (Re) and a local system leakage capacitance (Ce) of each local system (6) tobe monitored.
