The lightning current monitoring device (1) comprises a combined energy supply and sensor device (KES). The lightning current monitoring device (1) is designed to obtain energy used for a mutual inductor device (LED) from thunder discharging applied on the device to be monitored. The obtained energy is related to thunder discharging. The lightning current monitoring device (1) comprises the mutual inductor device (LED). The mutual inductor device (LED) obtains energy from the combined energy supply and sensor device (KES) and generates a light signal. The light signal is related to the obtained energy. In addition, the lightning current monitoring device (1) comprises an optical transmission path (LWL) used for transmitting signals and providing electrical isolation, and comprises an electrical analytical device (PC) identifying and assessing thunder discharging applied on the device to be monitored according to the light signal.
