The overhead braking resistor device comprises a braking resistor assembly and a casing; the braking resistor device is used for connecting to a traction converter so as to enable the electrical energy to be converted into the heat energy; the casing forms into a space which is used for accommodating the braking resistor assembly and can be connected to the vehicle top of the vehicle. The overhead braking resistor device is simple in structure and low in production cost and maintenance cost.
