The tester includes an objective lens, an eyepiece, a reading scale and a base; the base is provided with an extended barrel; a platform contacts with an end surface of the extended barrel; the base is also provided with the platform; a slider is arranged in a groove in the base; the base is connected with the slider; the upper plane of the slider is parallel to the platform; and the upper plane of the slider, the platform and the section of a composite waterproof coiled material sample jointly form a test plane. When the tester is used, the composite waterproof coiled material sample is arranged between the slider and a rectangular plane, and the section of the sample contacts with the end surface of the extended barrel, so that the section of the tested sample, the platform and the upper plane of the slider jointly form the test plane; the eyepiece is adjusted, so that an image in a field of view can be clear, and then the reading scale is rotated, so that a reading can be indicated, and finally, the core material thickness of the composite waterproof coiled material sample can be tested.
