Zusammenfassung:A method for determining if a film has been inadvertently flipped or rotated prior to scanning. The method ensures proper orientation of the mammogram digital image. A film is sub-stampled (702) and a histogram is generated (704). A computing distance of '1' pixels to '0' pixels (image borders assumed at 0), within expected corner region is performed (712) and if the distance for the pixel with the maximum such distance is less than a predetermined size threshold, then the image has been flipped (714) and a corrective step is performed (728). An evaluation is made as to whether the largest bright object in the lower half of the image is of the correct size to reflect a tag or not (722). If there is such an object and the brightest object in the upper half is not of the correct size, the film when scanned was inadvertently rotated and a corrective action is effected (730).
