Zusammenfassung:	The method involves branching two currents (I1, I2) from a feed current of a measurement current source, and passing the current (I1) through a switching device (1), and the current (I2) in parallel with the switching device. The current (I2) is detected with the aid of a measurement system (7), and an overlap time is determined from a change in the current (I2) as a function of time, where a current measurement signal is detected as a function of time with the aid of current sensors (8, 8a). An independent claim is also included for a measurement system for measuring contact erosion in an electrical switching device comprising a measurement current source, a sensor, and an evaluation unit.
