Nozzle cleaning device

This invention provides a washing apparatus for washing a discharge nozzle, to efficiently remove a coating at the tip portion of the discharge nozzle, without using an excessive amount of washing liquid. A rotating roller 11 for retaining a coating liquid 22 discharged from a slit shaped discharge port at the tip of a discharge nozzle 20 is provided in a manner that the roller 11 does not come in contact with the discharge nozzle 20. A blade 12 for removing the coating liquid retained on the outer peripheral surface of the rotating roller is provided in such a manner that the blade 12 is capable of reciprocatingly moving in an axial direction with respect to the rotating roller. A washing liquid supply device for supplying a washing liquid 14 to the outer peripheral surface of the rotating roller is provided at a down stream side of the blade with respect to the direction of rotation of the rotating roller. In the stage of removing the coating liquid from the rotating roller with the blade, the washing liquid is not supplied to the rotation roller, and at least in the stage of the washing liquid being supplied to the outer peripheral surface of the rotation roller, the blade is reciprocatingly moved in an axial direction with respect to the axis of the rotating roller.
