The invention provides a method and device for matching point-to-point protocol service types on Ethernet, where access device receives conservation request message; judging matching mode set on the access device; if the matching mode is inconsistent with set matching mode inputted by device manager, refusing to answer the request of the user; otherwise judging whether service types carried in the user-sent message is empty; according to the judging result, answering or refusing to answer the request of the user. And the invention fully uses access device resources and different custom services for users to assure more users with specific service requests can access as the access number of access devices reaches the access limit, and can customize service types for users at some access port.
