A metal article, such as an audio speaker enclosure, having a cloth-like appearance surface and also allowing sound to pass therethrough, and an associated method of manufacture. A metal audio speaker enclosure has: a metal mesh substrate having polygonal openings or braided wires through which sound can pass, the openings being defined by filaments providing structural strength; the pretreatment film is adhered to the metal grid substrate; and one or more layers of multicolor powder coating films adhered to the pretreatment film.
