Zusammenfassung: | Materials, such as ion exchange materials, for capturing substances, and related methods and systems are generally described. In some cases, sorbent materials are provided that can capture undesired substances from a fluid mixture, such as a waste stream. The sorbent material may include ceramic particles (e.g., as a resin) functionalized for efficient and/or selective capture of species such as perfluoroalkyl species and polyfluoroalkyl species (PFAS) and/or metal-containing or metalloid ions, including heavy metals. Systems and methods for further treatment of species captured by the sorbent material are also provided. For example, some embodiments are directed to mechanochemical treatment of capture species associated with adsorbent materials. Subjecting trapped substances, such as PFAS, to mechanochemical conversion can destroy potentially detrimental contaminants in a relatively inexpensive and dispensable manner.
