Stirring apparatus and method

A stirring apparatus includes a drive shaft, a stirring shaft, and a coupling device attaching an end portion of the drive shaft to an end portion of the stirring shaft. In some embodiments, the mixing apparatus also includes a support bracket configured to transfer a lifting force from the drive shaft to the mixing shaft while bypassing the coupling device. In some embodiments, the stirring apparatus further includes a jack configured to move the stirring shaft and the plurality of protrusions together as a unit. In some embodiments, the method lifts the plurality of protrusions relative to the stirring vessel, where the lifting force bypasses the application to the coupling device.
