Intracellular delivery compositions

Provided is a protein conjugate comprising: a protein carrier comprising a plurality of amine groups; a biological payload that interacts with an intracellular target; and a linker connecting the protein carrier to the biological payload wherein at least a portion of the amine group is bound to a protecting group.
