Milking system with analysis unit

A milking system has a milking device, a milk line, and a sampling and analysis device comprising an analysis tape having a carrier layer and a reagent tape layer having a reagent, a dispensing device, an optical radiation source, and an optical sensor device, the reagent provides a detectable response in the presence of a substance in the sample, and an optical sensor device for detecting the optically responsive radiation emitted by the reagent strip layer and analyzing the detected optically responsive radiation to provide an indication of the presence or concentration of the substance in the droplet. The reagent strip layer includes or has an asymmetric porosity material so as to have a maximum pore size on a first side providing the sample and a minimum pore size on an opposite side. The large pores allow milk to easily permeate, while the tapered pores filter out interfering milk particles, such as fat globules.
