Zusammenfassung: | The present invention relates to a method of reducing abnormal combustion events in operation of an internal combustion engine comprising the use of a lubricating oil composition comprising/mixed from (i) a base oil, (ii) a detergent preferably providing at least 800 ppm Mg and less than 500 ppm Ca; and (iii) an abnormal combustion event inhibitor compound preferably comprising at least one phosphorus-containing compound providing greater than 0.12 mass% phosphorus; wherein: 1) the lubricating oil composition is a SAE 10W-X, SAE 5W-X, or SAE 0W-X blend wherein X is 8, 12, 16, 20, or 30; and 2) when the lubricating oil composition is combined with a 88 octane reference fuel, the combination completes at least one iteration by Sequence IX Test, ASTM D829, with 175,000 cycles per iteration.
