Reconfigurable demodulation and decoding

According to one aspect, a method includes storing, for at least one modulation and coding scheme, a target decoding error rate and a mapping function describing dependencies of the decoding error rate and channel quality; receiving at least one message from the access node, the at least one message being associated with the determined modulation and coding scheme; decoding the at least one message by using reconfigurable decoding parameters adapted to the determined modulation and coding scheme; calculating a decoding error rate of the at least one message; measuring a channel quality metric associated with the at least one message; comparing a first decoding performance based at least in part on the calculated decoding error rate and the measured channel quality metric to a second decoding performance representative of the target decoding error rate by making the target decoding error rate and the calculated decoding error rate comparable using a mappi
