Inhalated iloprost for on-demand treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension

Provided herein are methods of treating pulmonary arterial hypertension. The method comprises administering to the subject an effective amount of iloprost as needed or as a rescue drug (also referred to as needed, PRN) wherein iloprost is administered to the subject by inhalation using a portable soft mist inhaler. In a preferred embodiment, the soft mist inhaler is a Responmatt TM or Medspray TM wet aerosol inhaler.
