System and method for integrating fire safety features within robotic furniture and interior building elements

Improved methods and systems for operating movable building elements (e.g., furniture) are described. The method includes receiving an indication of a detection event. The method includes performing movement of the movable building element from the first position to a second position in response thereto, wherein the second position is selected to reduce interference of the movable building element with a mitigation system configured to mitigate the detected event. The detection event includes at least one of fire, carbon monoxide, and smoke. A second position is selected based on a distance of the movable building element from the mitigation system. The second position is selected based on an orientation of the movable building element relative to the mitigation system.
