System and method for managing feature processing

The invention relates to a system and method for managing feature processing. At a machine learning service, a set of candidate variables is identified that can be used to train a model, including at least one processed variable generated by a feature processing transform. A cost estimate indicative of an effect of implementing the feature processing transformation on a performance metric associated with a predicted goal of the model is determined.
