Zusammenfassung: | The present invention relates to methods for biologically producing malonic acid; screening for malonic acid producing host cells having improved malonic acid production; purifying the biologically produced malonic acid; and recombinant host cells, materials and methods for converting malonic acid synthesis into industrially important chemicals. The recombinant host cell provided by the invention is a yeast cell or a bacterial cell, and comprises a heterologous malonyl-coenzyme A hydrolase. The recombinant host cells of the present invention comprise genetic modifications that increase acetyl-coenzyme A biosynthesis, increase malonyl-coenzyme A biosynthesis, reduce malonic acid catabolism, increase malonic acid secretion from the host cell, increase host cell tolerance to malonic acid, and increase catabolism of various carbon sources, thereby increasing malonic acid yield, titer, and/or productivity.
