Zusammenfassung:	[Problem] To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film having a smooth release surface, the biaxially oriented polyester film having a highly smooth surface on both surfaces, thereby suppressing transfer roughness of a release layer due to the surface shape after winding into a roll. [Solution] In a biaxially oriented polyester film in which, in one surface (plane A) and the other surface (plane B), if the maximum projection height values belonging to the first 5% of the maximum projection height values in each field of view obtained by the following method are denoted as Sp5% A (nm) and Sp5% B (nm), Sp5% A is 110 or less and Sp5% B is 150-1000 (inclusive). The maximum projection height measurement method is characterized in that a scanning white interference microscope (VertScan) is used, a 10-fold objective lens is used, a surface image of a field of view of 561 [mu] m < 2 > is measured in 100 fields of view, the maximum projection height (Sp) value in each field of view is obtained, and the value belongi
