An airbag system (1) for a riding-type powered vehicle (100) is provided. The system comprises: a housing (2); an airbag (6) arranged in the housing (2); and an inflator (7). The housing (2) is elongated and configured to face a driver, and the housing (2) is configured to be fixedly mounted to a leg guard (102) adjacent to a steering column (101) of the vehicle (100) in a region between a handlebar (104) of the vehicle and a pedal (105) of the vehicle. The elongate housing (2) is configured to be mounted in a substantially horizontal direction transverse to a longitudinal extending centerline (CL) of the vehicle (100). The inflator (7) is configured to, in the event of an activation signal, allow the airbag (6) to be inflated and deployed symmetrically on opposite sides of a longitudinally extending centerline (CL) of the vehicle (100), thereby filling the available space between the vehicle and the pelvic, abdominal, chest and head areas of the driver.
