Zusammenfassung:The present system and method determines an angle of an articulated trailer relative to a towing vehicle hitched by the trailer. An optical encoder is positioned below the fifth wheel of the tractor that is coupled with the trailer master pin when the trailer is hitched to the tractor. The optical coupler has a rotating shaft that may include a pin that physically interacts with the master pin and/or may include a magnet magnetically attached to the master pin. A clearance cleaning block may be positioned on the spring plate to interact with a bottom surface of the trailer pin during hitch of the trailer to the towing vehicle.
