Determination of static load torque at rest

Examples include methods for determining a static load torque applied to a salient pole synchronous machine while at rest. The method includes fixing a first non-zero torque generating current component and controlling the motor speed using a speed loop adjustment of a first adjusted component to achieve a first zero motor speed steady state corresponding to the fixed first non-zero current component, the motor being subjected to a particular static load torque. The method further includes controlling the motor speed using a speed loop adjustment of a second adjustment component to achieve a second zero motor speed steady state corresponding to a fixed second non-zero torque generation current component, the motor being subjected to a particular static load torque, the first non-zero current component and the second non-zero current component corresponding to different values.
