The method comprises the following steps: pretreating activated carbon, preparing an activated carbon-based solid acid catalyst, and dehydrating and cyclizing xylose to continuously prepare furfural. The method has the advantages that continuous production is realized in a continuous dehydration and cyclization production mode, the generated furfural can be separated from a reaction system in time, and the retention time of the generated furfural in an acid environment is shortened, so that side reactions and impurities are reduced; according to the synthesis mode, the xylose conversion rate is increased, the furfural selectivity and yield are increased, the xylose conversion rate is 90%, the furfural selectivity is 85%, and the yield of the dried furfural is 70%, so that the production cost is reduced.
