An endoscope in which a jaw opening and an imaging unit are arranged side by side at the tip, the imaging unit being provided with: an imaging lens; an imaging element having a light receiving surface disposed parallel to the optical axis of the imaging lens; an optical element that bends the optical axis of the imaging lens by 90 DEG and causes the light that has passed through the imaging lens to be incident on the imaging element; and a holder that holds the imaging lens and the optical element, in which a forceps tube connected to the jaw opening is disposed on the light receiving surface side of the imaging element, and a central axis that passes through the center of the outer shape of the imaging element and is parallel to the optical axis is positioned closer to the jaw opening side than the optical axis when viewed from a first direction perpendicular to the light receiving surface of the imaging element.
