A thermal management system for a traction battery pack includes: at least one cell stack having a plurality of battery cells; a heat exchange device having a first plate, a second plate, and at least one coolant channel that conveys coolant between the first plate and the second plate. The first plate is a first material. The second plate is a second material that is different from the first material. The thermal management system also includes at least one thermal circuit breaker in the heat exchange device. The at least one thermal circuit breaker is configured to suppress thermal energy transfer from a first region of the heat exchange device to a different second region of the heat exchange device.
