Self-description protocol translation device

A communication protocol translation system includes a non-self-description protocol (NSDP) sensor device configured to: receive an electrical signal from at least one sensor, generate NSDP sensor data from the NSDP based on the received electrical signal; a multi-function medical device configured to receive and process self-description protocol (SDP) data formatted according to the SDP; and an SDP translation device interposed between and in communication with the NSDP sensor device and the multi-function medical device, where the SDP translation device is configured to receive the NSDP sensor data, generate the SDP data based on the NSDP sensor data and an NSDP-to-SDP conversion algorithm, and translate the SDP data to the multi-function medical device based on the generated SDP data and the NSDP-to-SDP conversion algorithm.
