The present invention relates to a detergent tablet, in particular it relates to a detergent tablet for providing a liquid detergent composition when dissolved in water. A unit dose tablet comprising a surfactant, 0.1 to 10 wt% of a hydrogel and a water soluble inorganic salt wherein the hydrogel has a swelling ratio of at least 50 wherein the swelling ratio is defined by the formula: SR (Swell Ratio) = (WS-WD)/WD wherein WS is the weight of the hydrogel after swelling and WD is the weight of the dry hydrogel, the surfactant and the hydrogel.
