Zusammenfassung: | The material is weakened by accelerating a projectile to contact the material in a wellbore. The weakened material is then drilled through using a drill bit. To accelerate the projectile, an end cap is placed in a conduit using a gas source. The end cap isolates the conduit from the external environment. A projectile is then positioned in the conduit over the end cap. Movable members within the conduit are operated in sequence to enable a single end cap and projectile to move into the conduit. Gas from the conduit is emptied into an annulus between the conduit and a surrounding conduit, and propellant material is provided into the conduit. The propellant material applies a force to the projectile to accelerate the projectile into contact with the geological material. Fluid is circulated along a second annulus external to the surrounding conduit to contact the drill bit and remove debris.
