Mitigation of cryptosporidiosis using hydrogen peroxide-producing compositions

Disclosed herein are compositions for preventing or reducing cryptosporidiosis in an animal. The composition comprises a hydrogen peroxide source and is fed to an animal. The animal may be a newborn calf, and cryptosporidiosis may be caused by cryptosporidium parvum. Also disclosed are methods of preventing or reducing cryptosporidiosis in an animal by feeding the animal with a hydrogen peroxide-producing composition. Some disclosed methods reduce the number of cryptosporidium oocysts exfoliated by an infected animal or reduce the infectivity of cryptosporidium oocysts exfoliated by an infected animal.
