Polymer composition with flame retardant properties

A composition having flame retardant properties comprising a polymeric material and bauxite dispersed in the polymeric material for use as a flame retardant filler wherein the bauxite has an aluminum hydroxide content of at least 50 wt% and is in the form of particles having an average particle size (d50) of not more than 8.0 [mu] m and a specific surface area (BET) of not more than 10.0 m2/g. The composition has excellent self-extinguishing property and mechanical property (especially elongation at break).
