The invention relates to an applicator for a cosmetic product, comprising a straight stick body (2) extending along a main axis (A), said stick body (2) having a longitudinal direction and having grooves (3) formed on the outer surface (S) thereof. On at least one longitudinal portion (P), the outer surface (S) of the straight stick body (2) comprises at least two spiral grooves (3), one spiral groove (3) having a right-handed spiral and the other spiral groove (3) having a left-handed spiral, the grooves (3) meeting multiple times on the longitudinal portion of the straight stick body (2). Such an applicator with oppositely spiral grooves can improve the combing and separation of eyelashes (or other hair) when applying cosmetics. The presence of grooves with opposite spirals enables the applicator to be effectively used both in right and left hand use and to have the same or similar cosmetic effect.
