Method and apparatus for selecting media resource function or media gateway in internet protocol session

Embodiments described herein relate to methods and apparatus for enabling selection of media resource functions or media gateways in an IP session. A method in a Proxy Call Session Control Function, P-CSCF, includes receiving one or more Session Initiation Protocol, SIP, packets originating from a wireless device as part of an IP session; in response to receiving the SIP packet, transmitting a request to a policy control function, PCF, for an indication of a geographic service area of a user plane function, UPF, associated with the IP session; receiving an indication of a geographic service area; and selecting a gateway node based on the geographic service area. 本文中描述的实施例涉及用于能够实现IP会话中媒体资源功能或媒体网关的选择的方法和设备。一种在代理呼叫会话控制功能P-CSCF中的方法包括：接收源自无线装置的一个或多个会话发起协议SIP分组作为IP会话的一部分；响应于接收到SIP分组，向策略控制功能PCF传送对与IP会话关联的用户平面功能UPF的地理服务区域的指示的请求；接收地理服务区域的指示；以及基于地理服务区域来选择网关节点。
