The preparation method comprises the following steps: fully dissolving a gel electrolyte precursor in deionized water, and pouring into an electrolytic tank; taking a metal foil as a working electrode and an inert current collector as a counter electrode, and carrying out direct-current electrodeposition under the condition of constant current density, so that metal ions and gel electrolyte precursor molecules are subjected to chelation cross-linking reaction to form gel electrolyte attached to the surface of the metal foil; and alternately cleaning with deionized water and a metal ion solution to obtain the aqueous metal ion battery negative electrode.
