The fuel inlet is configured to direct fluid through the reaction column from a lower cell portion of a lowermost cell to an upper cell portion of an uppermost cell and out of the fuel outlet. A reagent inlet is configured to direct a reagent through the reaction column from an upper cell portion of the uppermost cell to a lower cell portion of the lowermost cell. The plurality of cells can be vertically or horizontally positioned, and can also be inclined or the like. Systems and methods are also disclosed.
