The invention relates to a model test method for studying the penetration process of a towing anchor in a soil bed. The model test method comprises the following steps: (1) mounting a test device: assembling the test device comprising a box body, a funnel, a towing power unit, a fixed pulley block, a traction rope piece and a towing anchor model; (2) moving the funnel in a reciprocating manner, and falling the soil sample particles to the bottom of the box body to prepare a test soil sample; (3) placing the towing anchor model at a towing initial position, and connecting the traction rope piece and the towing anchor model; (4) starting a dragging power unit, starting a dragging process, and recording data including dragging tension and displacement in the dragging process; and (5) after the towing process is finished, disconnecting the towing anchor model and the traction rope piece, excavating the test soil sample, and determining the final penetration posture of the towing anchor model, thereby completing t
