System and method for stationary transmission engagement and disengagement

The present disclosure provides "systems and methods for smooth proceeding of transmission engagement and disengagement". Systems and methods are provided for transitioning a hybrid vehicle from a park or neutral gear to a drive or reverse gear. In one example, when a transmission is out of gear, a requested engine speed is adjusted in response to a transmission out-of-gear indication and a transmission out-of-gear timer.
