Activation system and method for on-body medical devices

A medical device for injecting a medical substance has an activation button accessible on an exterior of a device housing. The activation button and a corresponding electrical switch within the housing are configured to prevent accidental activation of the button and thus accidental operation of the switch to initiate a process such as delivery of a medical substance to a user. The device uses an overlap of respective time trajectories initiated by activation of the activation button to determine whether the activation is expected and valid. These time trajectories do not have to be initiated simultaneously or in any particular order.
