Zusammenfassung: | The present invention relates to the identification of novel biomarkers particularly related to dry skin. These biomarkers, i.e., prolonged synaptic binding protein-3 (ESYT3), ubiquitin-carboxyl terminal hydrolase 7 (USP7), paraplatelet soluble protein (PPL) and advanced keratinized envelope protein 1C (LCE1C), can be used to accurately assess the moisture content of the skin, especially for diagnosis of dry skin. The present invention relates to a method for determining the moisture content of skin, in particular for diagnosing dry skin in a subject, comprising the step of measuring the expression level of at least one protein selected from the group consisting of ESYT3, USP7, PPL and LCE1C in a skin sample obtained from said subject. The invention also relates to a method of assessing the efficacy of a cosmetic treatment for hydrating the skin, as well as a method of screening candidate cosmetic compounds, both based on measuring the expression level of the above biomarker.
