The primary coil assembly 30 includes a coil portion 122 configured to be superconductive when conducting a current below a first critical current. The EMI shielded coil assembly 40 includes a coil portion 132 configured to superconductive when conducting a current below a second critical current, the coil portion electrically coupled to a variable resistor 140 configured to superconductive when conducting a current below a third critical current and non-superconductive when conducting a current at or above the third critical current, the third critical current is less than both the first critical current and the second critical current. Generating magnetic flux within the EMI shielded coil assembly 40 causes the current conducted through the variable resistor 140 to exceed the third critical current, quenching the variable resistor 140 and generating heat.
