According to the invention, the excellent drought-resistant gene ItbRASD1 is obtained by amplification from sweet potato related wild species, and the nucleotide sequence of the gene is as shown in SEQ ID NO: 1. Subcellular localization and promoter activity of the gene are researched, sweet potatoes are subjected to overexpression genetic transformation, and the drought resistance of the sweet potatoes is improved.
